THE GLOBAL WATER CRISIS
Most of us go about our daily lives without even realizing how much we rely on electricity and clean water. These commodities are at our fingertips, so it is hard to imagine how many people around the world go without them, and it is especially hard to imagine the level of suffering that lacking these resources causes. About 2.2 billion people lack access to safely managed drinking water services. Of these about “297,000 children under five die every year from diarrheal diseases due to poor sanitation, poor hygiene, or unsafe drinking water.” (WHO/UNICEF 2019) This phenomenon otherwise known as the Global Water Crisis ranks #5 in terms of its impact on society. As explained by the United Nations, “Water is at the core of sustainable development and is critical for socio-economic development, energy and food production, healthy ecosystems and for human survival itself.” A few other important concepts that rely on the accessibility of clean water include adaptation to climate change, reduction of disease and the overall improvement of health, education, and economic productivity of populations.

This incredible development is made possible with the use of solar panels, many people’s dedication, as well as ongoing donations from the GivePower Partners.
A SERVANT’S HEART
Upon learning of the incredible work that GivePower is doing around the world, and their GiverPower partnership program, the Atlantic Key Energy leadership immediately sought to become a part of the change. Over the past year, Atlantic Key Energy has donated $20 per installation that it has completed, resulting in a lifetime donation of $37,240 and counting. This donation has saved the lives of 1,862 people thus far. Every $20 that Atlantic Key Energy donated has had someone’s name attached to it, and they now have clean water for the next 20 years. Atlantic Key Energy CEO, Brian Schonbeck, has made it his mission to instill having a “servant’s heart” as one of the core values of the company. This not only goes towards the everyday operations, and the treatment of clients, but also towards giving back to those in need. At Atlantic Key Energy, we not only install solar, but we donate solar as well. There are many exciting projects that GivePower and Atlantic Key Energy will continue to collaborate on in the hopes of continuing to change lives with the use of clean energy.
